Printable lithium-polymer battery developed

Japanese scientists have developed a wafer-thin battery Lithium-polymer base that can be produced with printer technologies.

In Advanced Materials Innovation Centre (AMIC) explored technology enables a cheap industrial production. The thin and bendable own nature, the Dell inspiron 1525 battery also for use in solar panels, reported the Asian Technology Platform Tech-On. In contrast to lithium-ion batteries are based lithium-polymer batteries, not a liquid but a solid electrolyte. The developers, however, it is possible to produce the battery in a paper-like design, which promises maximum flexibility in production and use. Also, an additional coating to protect the battery is not a problem

Currently, scientists are experimenting with two prototypes that bring it to room temperature currently at two and four volts output voltage. What capacity can be achieved with a printed battery cell remained, the researchers so far, however, still guilty. As regards the use electrode materials used and the polymer electrolyte envelop the Japanese scientists still in silence. The thickness of the Dell inspiron 1721 battery was stated to be only 500 micrometers. The research project is scheduled by end 2011.
